Shiny new apps appear every day, and you probably have several of them sitting unused in the background.

It’s rare to find an app that you genuinely stick with.

Today, I would like to share 6 apps that I’ve been using consistently every day.

  1. Opal

  2. MyMind

  3. Widgy Widgets

  4. Beeper

  5. SyncTasks

  6. Experiments

1. Opal — Block Distractions

Opal is my preferred choice for blocking apps on my iPhone.

The app is beautifully designed, and the free version is enough for my needs.

I use it to block social media apps throughout the morning and during my afternoon work session. This helps me avoid mindless scrolling during moments of boredom or free time.

For exceptions that require access to social media, it includes a thoughtfully designed break feature. There is an initial delay with a countdown of a few seconds before you can use it, ensuring that you are intentional about unblocking your apps.

2. mymind — Collect Inspiration

mymind is a personal Pinterest board for creatives.

I use their browser and share extension to save design inspirations from social media, websites, apps, and pretty much everywhere else on the internet.

The promise of the app is that you don't have to organize anything. Your saved items are intelligently tagged, allowing you to search for a color, keyword, or brand to easily retrieve relevant items.

3. Widgy Widgets — Create Custom Widgets

If you can't find a widget you need or one that matches your aesthetic, Widgy is the solution for you.

You can either use the provided components to build your own widget from scratch or import one created by the community.

Thanks to Widgy, I can now enjoy home screen widgets, lock screen widgets, and live activities that complement my minimalist phone setup.

4. Beeper — All-In-One Chat App

Beeper brings all your chats from platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and Slack.

I particularly appreciate the support for X/Twitter and Instagram messages.

As mentioned earlier, I block social media apps for most of the early part of my day.

With Beeper, I can stay connected with people I chat with on social media without needing to unblock or open the social media app, which can be distracting.

5. SyncTasks — Minimalist To-do App

SyncTasks is a minimalist to-do app that will particularly appeal to Notion users.

Notion is a versatile app, and we can’t blame it for not being optimized for a specific experience of managing your to-dos.

SyncTasks offers integration with Notion, allowing you to sync tasks from various databases into a single, dedicated to-do app.

Together with support for home screen widgets, actionable notifications, Apple Shortcuts, and more, SyncTasks is almost certainly here to optimize your workflow in some way or another.

6. Experiments — Self-Improvement App

Experiments is an app I co-developed to encourage people to conduct more experiments in their lives.

You start with a hypothesis and set a duration for the experiment. Then, you simply observe the results, which are recorded as text or photos.

To dive deeper into adopting an experimenter’s mindset, consider adding Tiny Experiments by Anne-Laure Le Cunff to your reading list.

For examples of experiments to try, I highly recommend Matt D’Avella’s 30-day experiments video series.
